There’s nothing quite like a sun-kissed skin tone to make you look active and healthy, especially in the depths of winter, and airbrushing is a great way to get it. Unlike tanning beds or baking for hours in the sun, airbrushing is a safe way to get a temporary tan.
Most airbrush tans will last for 10 to 14 days when properly applied. To get the best results, here are a few tips to follow both before and after your session.
Exfoliate and shave but don’t moisturize. Your skin needs to be as clean and smooth as possible before applying the bronzer. On the day before your appointment, shave with a new blade. This will give your skin a day to recuperate before applying the product. Be sure to arrive at your appointment with freshly showered skin, but don’t apply any moisturizers or makeup afterwards. Instead, spend a few extra minutes in the shower giving your skin a thorough scrub to exfoliate any dead skin cells still hanging around.
Bring a dark colored, old bathing suit or undergarments to your appointment. Don’t use your best stuff! The product will be applied with an airbrush right over whatever you’re wearing. Be sure to wear loose fitting garments over your new tan on your way home. Be sure to remove all jewelry and contacts prior to the session as well, and apply a protective coat of lip balm to your lips.
After your session, avoid showering – or sweating or even hand washing – for up to eight hours. Then, be sure to keep your new tan well-hydrated with moisturizer after every shower, and use a good sun screen to protect it. Extended swims or hot tub use will also shorten the lifespan of your new tan.
